ANAEROBIC DIGESTION OF ANIMAL WASTES:
PROSPECTS AND CHALLENGES

The two day symposium took place at the Universidad Autonoma de Coahuila, Torreon, Mexico. Attendees included scientists from the USA and Mexico, cattle growers association members in the state of Coahuila and Durango, policy makers, representatives from Government, and non-governmental organizations in Mexico. Presentations were focused on: environmental problems associated with animal wastes, sustainable technologies for animal waste management, basic science concepts involved in the anaerobic digestion of animal wastes, limitations in transferring the technology to the field, clean development mechanism and carbon credit, government policies on animal waste management, and case studies. The symposium also included site visits to local cattle farms, and tours of the UAC lab facilities.

US-MEXICO TIES SYMPOSIUM: "ENERGY & ENVIRONMENTAL TECHNOLOGIES FOR SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT" April 17, 2008 at Driftmier Auditorium, Driftmier Engineering Center, University of Georgia, for this symposium held in conjunction with a TIES faculty exchange.
