Gerrit Hoogenboom
SUMMARY OF RESEARCH DIRECTIONS
Dr. Gerrit Hoogenboom is Professor and Coordinator of Research, Extension and Instruction of the Biological and Agricultural Engineering Unit of the University of Georgia in Griffin, Georgia. He also is manager for the Georgia Automated Environmental Monitoring Network, a network of over 70 automated weather stations across the state of Georgia (www.Georgiaweather.net). He has worked for over 25 years in the area of crop modeling and decision support systems. One of his main areas of interests includes understanding the impact of environmental factors on crop production and resource management. This includes the use of crops for food, feed, fiber, and biofuel. Through his research, he has authored or coauthored over 125 peer reviewed journal articles, edited one book, and written many book chapters and conference proceedings. He has participated as Principal Investigator (PI) or Co-PI in numerous international, federal, state, or industry funded projects, totaling over $10 million). He has facilitated numerous international training workshops on the application of crop models and decision support systems at the University of Georgia, as well as in Thailand, Argentina, Namibia, Ghana, Tanzania, and Kenya. Dr. Hoogenboom also currently coordinates the development of the Decision Support System for Agrotechnology Transfer (DSSAT), a crop modeling and decision support system that encompasses more than 25 different crops (www.ICASA.net).
